DENVER - After trailing the first two quarters, Kent Denver exploded on both sides of the ball in the second half to defeat a visiting Elizabeth 39-20 Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals drove the ball down the field on their first possession, and were first to get on the board after a quarterback sneak by Ty Oliver from the two yard line. The Sun Devils would respond with two touchdowns of their own, and would take a 12-7 lead (after a missed extra point and two-point conversion) to begin the second quarter.
Elizabeth hung with its opponent, and made the first big pass completion on the day. With five minutes remaining until halftime, Oliver connected with Reece Ullery for a 47-yard touchdown. The Cardinals took a 14-12.
The Sun Devils regrouped and came out ready to play in the third. Charles McKissick helped his team earn great field position, with multiple kickoff and punt returns that took the Sun Devils to midfield. Quarterback Joey Licht also made several crucial completions, and took his team to the end zone three more times en route to the Sun Devils' 39-20 victory.
Kent Denver improves to 4-1 on the season, and will play Ridge View Academy next Saturday for homecoming.
