Lakewood defeats rival Bear Creek in thrilling 37-28 finish

Lakewood vs Bear Creek football rivalry game

LAKEWOOD -- The Lakewood Tigers and the Bear Creek Bears put together a thrilling game of offense with an epic 37-28 ending.

First half, the two teams went back and forth exchanging touch downs including a huge kick return from Tiger's Brock Miller to tie the game 14-14.

At halftime the two teams were knotted at 21 points a piece.

Both teams began the second half more tentative, running the ball for small gains. The first score came from a field goal by Lakewood's Austin Geske to go up 24-21 late in the third.

However, Bear Creek soon called with a touchdown of their own and the back and forth game came back to play. Now leading 28-24 with 2:42 left in the game, Lakewood needed to quickly make their way down the field and they did.

Lakewood would work the clock and their way down the field for a punch in to the end zone near the five yard line to go up 31-28 against their rival.

The Bears, working with a minute and 14 seconds in the game somehow find themselves around the Tiger's 20 yard line for a field goal with seven seconds left.

After Lakewood burned their two time outs in an attempt to ice the kicker, the Tiger's Brock Miller strikes again with a huge field goal block. Teammate Steven Romero picks it up and goes down the field 80 yards for a touchdown to seal the 37-28 win.
