Mead football brings Thanksgiving "family member" to practice in preparation for big playoff game

The Mead Mavericks brought a special family member to their Thanksgiving football practice.

LONGMONT-- The Mead football team is hoping to turn everyone's favorite thanksgiving recipe into a recipe for success.

As the team prepares for its playoff football game this weekend, the Mavericks brought a live turkey to their practice on Thanksgiving.

But for Mead, the turkey is "family", not food.

"He's a pet," Mead Junior Tristan Lee said. "His name is Kevin, and he's out here because it's Thanksgiving."

Lee's family has owned the turkey for over a year.

"He follows me around the house," Lee said. "And, he eats a lot of food."

Lee's family named the turkey "Kevin" after the giant bird in the popular kids movie, Up

Mead is hoping to upset No. 2 Pueblo East this Saturday in the 3A semifinals.

There is no word yet on whether Kevin the turkey will be in attendance.
