Mountain Vista and Chaparral finish knotted 1-1

Mountain Vista vs Chaparral girls soccer 4-6

HIGHLANDS RANCH - Two of Colorado's top ranked 5A girls soccer teams took to the pitch at Shea Stadium on Wednesday night.

The No. 6 Mountain Vista Golden Eagles and the No. 7 Chaparral Wolverines met for one of their toughest matchups in the early part of their seasons.

Wolverine's goalkeeper, Lily Rawnsley came ready to play for her team. Rawnsley had a standout game with six major saves that could have easily been goals for the Eagles.

Majority of the games chances were in the Wolverines defensive zone and eventually the Eagles would send one to the back of the net. In the first half off a corner kick, Rawnsley would make the first save, but there was no one there when senior Haley Schueppert sent the rebound to the back of the net for her second of the season.

Mountain Vista ended the half on top, 1-0.

In the second, the ball continued to be handled by the Golden Eagles; however, the Wolverines would get their chances on three straight corner kicks. Not until their third strike, back-to-back-to-back did junior Hannah Hiatt head one to the top corner to knot the game up 1-1.

Despite many surges to score in the last few minutes the Golden Eagles, the Wolverines would hold them scoreless and the two would head to overtime.

After two overtime periods, neither team could manage to finish the game on top and the game concluded in a 1-1 tie.
