No. 1 Kent Denver hands No. 2 Cherry Creek a 3-1 loss

Kent Denver vs Cherry Creek field hockey

DENVER -- In a No. 1 vs No. 2 match up on Thursday, the Kent Denver Sundevils hold onto their undefeated record and first ranked spot with a 3-1 victory over the second ranked Cherry Creek Bruins.

The Sundevils struck early off a corner and rebound. Kent's leading scorer sophomore Madeleine Hunt strikes, while teammate Lauren Murray makes sure it's in.

The Bruins would up their pressure after the quick first goal by the Sundevils; however, the Kent duo Hunt and Murray would strike again. Hunt would take the initial shot in the slot and then it's buried by Murray in front.

At halftime Kent Denver lead Cherry Creek 2-0.

After a short intermission, the Sundevil's capitalized on another corner as senior Shelby Schumacher nails one that sails untouched to the back of the goal. Kent now up 3-0.

Both teams continue to exchange chances after the initial first half goal, yet neither team is able to score. Kent goaltender Emilie-Anne Choi kicks away crucial shots late in the game; but it was only a matter of time till Creek would get on the board.

Bruins' Toni Aguilar Rosenthal dives, one-timing a pass in the slot for a Creek goal.

Kent holding on strong to their lead keeps Creek off the board the rest of the game for the 3-1 win.

No. 1 ranked Kent Denver will play Palmer Ridge next Monday.
