The No. 2 ranked Chatfield Chargers overcame a first half deficit to defeat cross-town rival Dakota Ridge 36-29 Friday night in Lakewood.
The Eagles surprised their opponents by getting on the board first. Quarterback Drew Dominic found Keenan Brown in the end zone for a 40-yard touchdown completion and a 6-0 lead early in the first. Chatfield kept pace with the help of Tylor Rowles who scored a 47-yard run, but the Chargers found themselves in unfamiliar territory trailing 12-10 at half.
Dakota Ridge appeared to carry the momentum again in the second half, but the Chargers came storming back. Rowles found the end zone twice more, and Virginia Tech commit Dalton Keene scored a touchdown and came up with a crucial interception in the fourth quarter to all but seal the game. Andrew Mangold also contributed three field goals in Chatfield's 36-29 victory.
The Chargers improved to 8-1 on the season, and will play Heritage in next week's regular season finale. A win against the Eagles will ensure the league title and a spot in the 4A playoffs.
