LAFAYETTE - Denver South used a strong ground game to run past Monarch Saturday morning. The Rebels defeated the Coyotes 41-23.
The first quarter was a back-and-fourth affair. Each team found the end zone twice to move into the second quarter tied at 14.
South exploded from there. Marcus Lindsay escaped four tackles to make it to the end zone on a 44-yard rush with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half. That helped the Rebels regain the lead for good. Zach Cheiko would send to balls through the uprights to give his team a nice 27-14 cushion heading into half time.
Both defenses stepped up in the third quarter. The Coyotes were awarded a safety after a bad snap had to be recovered by the South punter in the end zone.
Lindsay would find the end zone one more time before the game was finished, and teammate Derius Pinkett added his own to help their team secure the 41-23 victory.
