ENGLEWOOD -- The No. 3 ranked Mullen Mustangs hosted the No. 2 ranked Holy Family Tigers for an early look at top competition in 4A girls basketball.
The Mustangs took the lead early under senior and Regis University commit Whitney Jacob, as well as junior Noelle Van Horn. Jacob made her way inside for a higher percentage shot, while teammate Van Horn made the outside shots for the extended lead.
At halftime, Mullen lead Holy Family 30-15.
Later in the game, Tigers' junior Isabelle Hren and senior Casey Griggs helped command tempo for their team attempting to keep the score close and pulling within 10 points in the 4th quarter.
However, the Mustangs' Jacob, Van Horn and Tori Galvan's (also a Regis commit) offensive talent was too much for the Tigers in their first game of the season.
Mullen takes a 1-0 record in their season 52-42.
