AURORA-- Coming into Wednesday night's matchup, there were a lot of similarities between Eaglecrest and Cherokee Trail.
Both teams were 5-1 in the Centennial League. Both had only three losses on the season. And, both were ranked in the top 10 in the state for 5A.
But, when the two schools met head-to-head, there appeared to be a slight difference on the field.
The No. 4 Cougars went on the road to No. 7 Eaglecrest and controlled the game from start to finish, winning by a final score of 8-1.
Leading just 3-0 heading into the 5th inning, Sophomore Delanie Cox hit a rocket down the left field line for an RBI that started a three-run inning to double Cherokee Trail's lead heading into the sixth.
A little bit later, Eaglecrest's Rachel Sabourin hit an opposite field triple in the gap to get her team on the scoreboard.
But in the end, Cherokee Trail Pitcher Audrey Pickett was dominant on the mound, and the Cougars offense was too high-powered for Eaglecrest to hang around.
With the win, Cherokee Trail moved to 16-3 on the season.
