Platte Valley plays lights out to open up 1-0

KUSA – The Platte Valley Broncos were on a mission on Friday night, and that was to start the 2014 season strong. That's exactly what they did. The 2A defending state champions topped Resurrection Christian, 34-13, in its first game of the year.

The Broncos opened up shop early, jumping out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. By halftime, the Broncos went up 21-7.

Platte Valley knows how to play lights out, literally. Late in the fourth quarter, Platte Valley sophomore tailback Austin Hill took a hand-off from senior quarterback Daniel Frantz, who ran it in from 72-yards out. While Austin was celebrating with his teammates on the sideline, the stadium lights turned off.

After about a 20 minute power outage, the lights returned and the game resumed with 4:58 to play. The Broncos added an extra point to make it 34-7. The Cougars added one more touchdown while the clock ran out.

Platte Valley will host Strasburg next Friday at 7 p.m., while Resurrection Christian will play Highland next Friday at 7 p.m. at Loveland Sports Park.
