BOULDER - Pueblo East beat Denver South 58-51 in the boys Class 4A state championship game Saturday night at the Coors Events Center.
Dylan Gavin poured in 16 points and added 12 rebounds to lead the Eagles to their first state championship in program history. Jimmy Valdez (13 points), T.J. Gradisar (13), and Alex Jara (12) also finished in double figures for Pueblo East.
Denver South got 14 points, including several thunderous dunks, from forward Ibrahim Sylla. The Northern Colorado commit also grabbed 10 rebounds. Guard Tyson Purifoy led the team with 16 points.
East was able to outscore the Rebels 23-15 in the fourth quarter to pull out the seven-point victory.
Denver South (19-9) fell one win short from capturing their first state title in 44 years.
