LITTLETON-- Playing in front of a raucous home crowd, the Dakota Ridge Eagles kept inching closer and closer to the visiting Rangeview Raiders.
But, none of those inches translated into wins.
After rallying to pull out a thrilling win in the third set, Rangeview swept Dakota Ridge 3-0 on Wednesday night.
But it wasn't without a scare at the end.
After winning the first two sets 25-17 and 25-23, it took more than the standard total of 25 to pull out the third victory and complete the sweep.
The Eagles jumped out to a 6-1 lead early, but then the Raiders rallied and things got really interesting down the stretch.
Dakota Ridge's Sara Rose Smith had some clutch moments late, as it looked like the Eagles would get their first victory.
However, the Raiders pulled out the thrilling back-and-forth finale 29-27 to win the match 3-0.
Senior Tyler Speller was unstoppable for Rangeview all night, tallying several vicious kills to help the Raiders stay in control.
When Speller wasn't doing the scoring, teammates Ryan Nelson, Jaelin Jones and Lexi Hurtado stepped up.
Whether it was a block or a kill, the Rangeview Raiders were making plays at the net over and over again, as that proved to be the difference against a Dakota Ridge squad that hung around all night.
