Sanford boys hit FTs to secure 2A title

PUEBLO – Able to make their free throws in the closing minutes, the Sanford boys won their sixth state title Saturday night with a 58-53 victory over Akron in the Class 2A championship game at CSU-Pueblo.

Akron's Brady Baer hit a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left to pull within 55-51, but Calder Larson was fouled on the ensuing play and made both free throws to secure the win. Sanford make nine free throws in the final two minutes, and Larson hit six in the fourth quarter.

Baer, who became the state's all-time leading scorer on Thursday, finished with 34 points on Saturday night as the Rams finish the season 25-2.
