Saturday Prep Rally (9/10/16)

KUSA - The Saturday morning Prep Rally featured a plethora of highlights, including a handful of rivalry games for the week of September 5.

In football, Boulder and Fairview went head-to-head for the 53rd time. With new head coach Vincent Smith taking over, the Panthers looked to break an eight-game winless streak against their cross-town opponent. Rivals Longmont and Greeley West played under the lights in northern Colorado, and Vista Peak and Mead went back-and-forth all night in their 3A matchup. Finally, Cherokee Trail wanted to get its first win of the season, but would have to get through an opposing Denver East.

Columbine hosted the annual Dave Sanders Memorial Softball tournament this week. The Rebels opened play against Smoky Hill, with the championship game being played on Saturday.

In volleyball, it was a ranked showdown in 4A. No. 9 Berthoud looked to upset No. 5 Holy Family.

Finally, we received word this week that Chatfield football assistant coach Don McGatlin lost his cabin in a fire. The community is rallying together in hopes of helping him rebuild, as it was not insured. The cabin has served as the location for the Chatfield football camps for the past 11 years. If you would like to donate to the cause, you can click here or visit the GoFundMe page set up by the family at https://www.gofundme.com/coachmaccabin.
