DENVER--Mullen has escaped a daunting 3-game stretch against Pomona, Valor Christian and Regis with a solid 2-1 record.
Friday night against the Raiders, the Mustangs opened with a bang on offense, and finished with a boisterous thud on defense, shutting out Regis 17-0.
On its first possession, Dominic Depizzol launched a beautifully thrown 43-yard touchdown pass to A'jon Vivens to give Mullen a 6-0 lead.
That's all the defense would need.
Tanner Clem, Taye Mitchell and Nathan Dietrick made it a long night for Regis Quarterback Justin Lamb, sacking him on several occasions and putting pressure on him all night.
And, when Lamb was able to get passes off, Mullen Defensive Back Isaiah Banks was making thunderous hits on Regis receivers to force incomplete passes.
The Raiders defense did all it could to keep this contest close.
Regis' Patrick Roe had not one, but two interceptions that gave the offense decent starting field position.
But in the end, the Mustangs were in lockdown mode, showing why they have established themselves as one of the top teams in 5A thus far.
