KUSA - The State softball championship highlighted the Sunday morning Prep Rally, along with football, volleyball and boys' soccer.
Mountain Range, Valor Christian and Strasburg were last year's state softball champs, but only two would get the chance to defend those titles. The 5A title was up for grabs, as top-seeded Broomfield would take on Cherokee Trail for a chance at the trophy. The Valor Eagles were going for a three-peat title in 4A, but would have to get through a tough Erie team. Finally, Rocky Ford would go for its first ever state championship in a girls' sport against defending champ, Strasburg.
Going into last week's games, only one of the 36 5-A football teams were undefeated. Eaglecrest would look to keep it that way as they took on Castle View, and Evergreen and Conifer hit the turf in hopes of taking home the coveted Mountain Bowl hardware.
In volleyball, Fairview was looking for a win over Loveland that would move them into a first-place tie in the Front Range League. Meanwhile, Fossil Ridge would look to take sole first place with a win of its own over Mountain Range.
We finished with a showdown in the Jefferson County soccer league. Standley Lake and D'Evelyn played for the league title.
