COMMERCE CITY - Heading into Saturday's 4A state soccer championship game, The Classical Academy had something to prove. The Titans had made an appearance in the state title game the previous three seasons, but had come up short each time. What's more -- TCA had been shut out of the previous two.
It's safe to say, that's in the past.
The Classical Academy pounded Battle Mountain 7-1 Saturday afternoon to clinch its first state soccer title.
From the onslaught, this was the Titans' game to lose. TCA came out on fire, and quickly got on the board on a goal from Jonny Stephens, which hit the cross bar before sneaking behind the Battle Mountain keeper. The Classical Academy took a 2-0 lead going into halftime, and turned up the energy even higher in the second.
Stephens scored the seventh and final goal of the game, and five other teammates contributed a score in the victory.
TCA finished a perfect 8-0 in league, and 18-2 this season.
