Heard was Colorado's first selection, second round and 41st overall pick, in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. 

The forward averaged a point-per-game with the Ontario Hockey League's Plymouth Whalers in 2011-12, collecting 57 points (29 goals, 28 assists). 

The 20 year-old Bowmanville, Ontario native will participate with the club in training camp.
