Jefferson Academy soccer gets revenge on Colorado Academy, advances to 3A semis

Jefferson Academy beats Colorado Academy 1-0.

DENVER-- It turns out that Jefferson Academy won the one that mattered.

After losing 1-0 to Colorado Academy just a few weeks ago during the regular season, the Jaguars bounced back with a 1-0 shutout of their own Saturday.

Although, this win sent Jefferson Academy to the state semifinals in 3A soccer.

In a quarterfinal matchup between the No. 3 and No. 6 seeds in the state, the lower seed came out on top.

In the first half, Jaguars Senior Captain Lucas Almeida took a through ball, beat the defense and eventually beat the Colorado Academy keeper to make it 1-0.

He almost added another goal a few minutes later, but the Mustangs were able to keep it a one-goal game.

For Colorado Academy, it looked like Wyatt Westfall was going to even things up with the goal of the year.

The junior nearly connected on an impressive bicycle kick volley, but his shot missed just wide, and the Mustangs were never able to get on the scoreboard the rest of the day.

With the victory, Jefferson Academy will take on No. 2 KIPP Denver in the 3A state semifinals on November 9.
