Longmont native Apodaca signs with CFL Winnipeg

KUSA—Professional football is not limited to the NFL.

Austin Apodaca, a Longmont native and former Silver Creek High School star quarterback, has signed to play for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The 6-foot-3, 212-pound Apodaca played his college ball at Washington State and New Mexico. He attended the Broncos’ local pro day two weeks before the NFL Draft at the team’s UCHealth Training Center headquarters.

Represented by the Denver-based ProStar Agency, Apodaca is trained here locally by Loren Landow and former Fort Lewis quarterback Tim Jenkins is his quarterback coach.

Apodaca’s father, Mike, is Silver Creek’s head football and baseball coach. The CFL season begins June 22 and ends with the Grey Cup on Nov. 26.
