KUSA - Rockies rookie Tyler Matzek did something only five other Colorado Rockies have ever done. The 23 year old pitcher won his debut at home.
Matzek was the third Rockies pitcher in the past six days to make his Major League debut and 5th already this season.
Most players struggle in that first start, but not Matzek, not by a long shot. The young man up from triple AAA admitted he was nervous but it didn't show. Matzek struck out seven Braves in seven innings of work. He also did some damage at the plate. Matzek got his first hit and later scored his first run.
Matzek left the game in the 8th inning to a standing ovation. He allowed only 5 hits and 2 runs. The Rockies beat the Braves 8-2.
