Swelled finger sends Carlos Gonzalez to 15-day DL

KUSA - An extremely frustrated Carlos Gonzalez is heading to a place no player wants to be: the disabled list. The Rockies have placed Cargo on the 15-day DL with swelling in his left index finger.

Gonzalez left Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks after the 5th inning. He had struck out in the 4th and caught a fly ball in the the 5th.

"I tried to stay in there but it gets to the point I can't get a grip on the bat. I just took one swing and it (got) really, really big. It can't even fit in my batting glove," Gonzalez said after the game.

"I really don't know what to do at this point. It's just really hard, it was really hard to just (come) out of the game over and over again, this is probably the third time. It's frustrating, I don't know what to do."

Gonzalez has played in 52 games this season and is hitting .255 with 12 doubles, a triple, 8 home runs, 31 RBI and 27 runs. He is the only Major Leaguer with an active streak of four-straight 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases seasons.

To fill Gonzalez's spot on the active roster, infielder Ryan Wheeler has been recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs. In addition, catcher Michael McKenry has been recalled from Triple-A and catcher Jordan Pacheco has been designated for assignment.
