Tulowitzki named derby captain

KUSA - Call him "Captain Tulo." Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has been named the captain of the National League All-Star Home Run Derby squad.

Tulowitzki's primary duty is to select the other three sluggers who will join him to represent the NL on July 14 at Target Field in Minneapolis.

"To be the captain, I don't know if that's something I'm looking forward to because of how tough the decisions are going to be," Tulowitzki said. "But, at the same time, I'm honored to be the National League captain."

Tulowitzki, who leads the Major Leagues with a .355 batting average, is second in the National League with 18 home runs. Although he may be tempted to invite some of his power-hitting buddies like teammate Justin Morneau or former Rockie Matt Holliday to the Derby, Tulo almost certainly has to pick Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, who has 20 homers, best in the N.L.

Two-time home run champion Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays has been named the American League captain. His most obvious choice will be Jays teammate Edwin Encarnacion, who leads all big leaguers with 25 homers.
