KUSA - There was no finality in head coach Brian Shaw's speech to his team after their last disappointing game in their disappointing year.
The Nuggets had long been eliminated from the playoffs so his message was simple and oddly omniscient.
"I just told the guys this is the last time we want to end the season on the final game of the regular season," Shaw asserted. For the first time in ten seasons Denver would not be advancing into the playoffs as they fell to Golden State again Wednesday night.
"I encouraged them to watch a lot of playoff basketball so they can see the things that we didn't do that allowed the teams to continue on and play," he continued.
The injury plagued season wasn't even close to what the first year head coach envisioned. He struggled to find five guys to put on the floor let alone find strategical matchups. Forward Danilo Gallinari, center JaVale McGee, guard Nate Robinson and forward JJ Hickson all went down and those that replaced them were forced to take on the added minutes and roles.
"We're not disappointed in our season due to effort of the guys who finished things out and played hard. We're just disappointed that we didn't accomplish the goals that we set out at the beginning of the season," the head coach confided.
Shaw hopes he never has to see another season go by like this one – one where the Nuggets don't make the playoffs.
