Pros and cons for new CSU Stadium discussed

KUSA - Some think it makes all the sense in the world. Others say football is not the culture of Fort Collins.

Both sides will be present for the fourth Community Design Development Advisory Committee meeting Monday night. These meetings are not to debate the stadium issue, rather to discuss design elements and the stadium's impact on the community.

The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the City of Fort Collins Community Room, 215 N. Mason St. Prior to the meeting, 9NEWS heard from both sides of the stadium debate.

Tyler Shannon from the pro-stadium group "Be Bold" told Susie Wargin, "I speak to thousands of fans and alumni and they are real excited about this stadium and community members are really getting excited. We've had over 400 business leaders come out and say how excited they are for the stadium. It's going to be a big benefit to the university and really change the avenue of the future for CSU and I can't be more excited about it and looking forward to the future."

On the other side of the fence is Doug Brobst's group called "Save our Stadium." They contend Hughes Stadium will suffice for the CSU football team, "The culture of Fort Collins is such that we aren't geared towards college football like a lot of other towns are and as a result, the majority of the people in Fort Collins are opposed to the idea of having a main campus stadium. What's really frustrating for the citizens is we just don't feel we've had a voice in this. It was kind of like it was a done deal from the beginning. We've approached the Board of Governors and they aren't willing to discuss this with us so we would really like to have some dialogue in this matter since it affects our city so much."
