DENVER - Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips has been released from the hospital after suffering a hard hit during Sunday's game against the Chargers.

According to Broncos' VP of Public Affairs Patrick Smyth, Phillips is OK and should return to work on Monday.

Medical staff carried the 69-year-old out on a stretcher after he was slammed by San Diego running back Melvin Gordon. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation and released about 2 hours later.

Last year, Phillips was hit during a Steelers game, according to 9NEWS Broncos' Insider Mike Klis.

Linebackers Coach Reggie Herring took over the defensive play-calling duties, according to the Broncos' website. The Broncos won the matchup against the Chargers 27-19, bringing their record to 6-2.
