DENVER- The Broncos defeated the Seahawks, 21-16 Thursday night at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in the 2014 preseason opener.
Linebacker Steven Johnson intercepted Tyrelle Pryor's pass in the endzone late in the fourth quarter to all but seal the Broncos victory.
Peyton Manning completed 10/13 passes for 78 yards, while Brock Osweiler was 6/12 through the air for 85 yards, 1TD, and an INT.
"It's your first game of the 2014 season," said Peyton Manning." It's your job to go out and compete. Guys are fighting for jobs, so I don't think it meant anything more than that, as far as guys trying to establish themselves as players on this team in 2014 and the guys that have the starting jobs right now are trying to keep their jobs and execute. There are some good things, like we said, on the film, and some things we'll learn from, as well."
Osweiler connected with Jordan Norwood on a 34-yard scoring strike in the fourth quarter for the first passing touchdown this season for the Broncos to give Denver a 21-16 lead with roughly 7:20 remaining in the contest.
"Not a lot of pressure," said Osweiler. "I know how I'm capable of playing and the level I'm capable of playing to. I just want to show that to our coaching staff, my teammates and the rest of the Broncos organization, and that's what I'm striving to do every single day."
Perhaps the biggest story line in the game was the weather, The game was delayed at the end of the first quarter for nearly 45 minutes, with the quarter lasting an hour and a half.
A touchdown from Seattle's Christine Michael tied the preseason rematch at seven with 7:12 remaining in the second quarter, before a Steven Hauschka field goal gave the Seahawks a 10-7 lead moments before recess.
The two teams combined for 25 penalties (226 total yards). Both Seattle and Denver will meet again in Week 3 of the 2014 regular season on Sept. 21st.
Broncos runningback C.J. Anderson suffered a concussion in the 2nd quarter and did not return.
