DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - The Denver Broncos will make quarterly payments starting in October to own the naming rights of their stadium, but the team hopes to have a new naming-rights buyer by the end of the year, a stadium official said Tuesday.
Until then, the stadium will retain the name Sports Authority Field at Mile High despite the sporting-goods retailer's bankruptcy.
The team asked the Metropolitan Football Stadium District — the agency that owns the Broncos stadium — if it could make the payments quarterly, instead of annually, as Sports Authority had done for the past 15 years.
Despite the Broncos' naming-rights payments, the team has no intention of being a long-time owner of the stadium naming rights, said Ray Baker, chairman of the board of directors for the stadium district.
