KUSA - The Denver Broncos added plenty of speed through the NFL Draft last weekend, but not at running back as they hoped.
Still in need of tailback speed, the Broncos will visit with former Kansas City Chiefs’ star Jamaal Charles on Tuesday, two league sources confirm to 9NEWS.
Charles, 30, has been beset by knee injuries the past two seasons, but when last healthy, he was one of the NFL’s best running backs. He rushed for 1,120 and 1,467 yards in 2009 and 2010, missed most of 2011 with a torn ACL, then rushed for 1,509, 1,287 and 1,044 yards in his next three seasons of 2012-14.
Then came another ACL tear in 2015 and complications from that injury in 2016. He played in just eight combined games in those two seasons, rushing for 404 yards on 83 carries (4.87 yards per carry).
Charles is also an excellent receiver out of the backfield as he had70 catches for 693 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2013.
The Broncos did draft Coastal Carolina running back De’Angelo Henderson in the sixth round to add to the ball-carrying stable led by C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker.
