ENGLEWOOD - It had been a long time between dances for Von Miller.
As the Super Bowl 50 MVP, Miller became one of 12 celebrity contestants this year on Dancing with the stars. He finished tied for 7th as he was eliminated on May 2.
We didn’t see Miller dance again (taped commercials and preseason doesn’t count) until after the play that led to the final 2-minute warning Thursday night in the Denver Broncos’ 21-20 win against the Carolina Panthers.
Miller danced after dropping Carolina quarterback Cam Newton that appeared to be a huge play at the time as he brought a fourth-and-21 to Carolina.
That made it four months and a week between dances. The sack did not ice a Broncos victory, though, as cornerback Chris Harris Jr. was flagged for a hand-to-the-face penalty on the next play that gave Carolina a gift set of downs.
After destroying Panthers’ right tackle Mike Remmers in Super Bowl 50, Remmers was much more effective against Miller. For three reasons: 1. Remmers made adjustments; 2. Remmers occasionally got help from a second blocker who would “chip” Miller; 3. Newton did not drop as deep into the rush path of Broncos edge rushers.
“You don’t see Steph Curry complain about being double-teamed,’’ Miller said about the NBA sharp-shooter. “He just goes out there and makes it happen and that’s the same mindset I have. No matter what, I’m just going to be relentless and take it one play at a time.”
