Peyton Manning sings about chicken parmesan

KUSA – It is universally acknowledged that Peyton Manning is very good at football, but another skill of his is on display in a new commercial for Nationwide.

The 30-second spot, which is set to debut during Thursday's night NFL regular season opener between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks, features the legendary quarterback singing about mundane things to the tune of Nationwide's catchy jingle ("Nationwide is on your side").

The commercial will air throughout the NFL season.

A Nationwide spokesperson could not confirm how much Manning was paid to appear in the spot. Manning signed a multi-year marketing partnership with Nationwide Insurance in May.

The 38-year-old is the NFL's top product endorser, and has endorsement deals with everyone from DirecTV to Gatorade to Buick. He also owns 21 Papa John's stores in Denver. His wife, Ashley, is the part-owner of the Memphis Grizzlies.

In the Nationwide spot, Manning sings about "Omaha" (the thing he likes to yell, not the city), how he can't feel his toes in an ice bath, how nice new cars smell and chicken parmesan. It ends with him sitting on the couch, where he hears the ubiquitous Nationwide commercial.

"Everywhere we go, people sing the 'Nationwide is on your side' jingle. As we developed this ad, we wanted to convey the familiarity of the jingle in a manner that attracts attention in a lighthearted way," said Matt Jauchius, chief marketing officer at Nationwide, in a news release.

The ad was developed in partnership with Oglivy & Mather Advertising with New York.

There's no word yet on if Manning will appear in other spots for Nationwide throughout the season.

Last month, the Peyton and Eli Manning rapped about their fantasy football dreamland in a DIRECTV music video.
