First playoff game needs "control" for young Avs

KUSA- Game one of the Avalanche/Wild playoff series will be the first time for several players to experience the NHL's second season. For most it's the realization of a life-long dream of chasing Lord Stanley's Cup.

"There's going to be some nerves out there but I think what's really important is to keep our emotions in check and make sure we're under control out there," Gabe Landeskog said after skate around Thursday.

Rookie Nathan MacKinnon is also getting his first taste of the NHL post season. MacKinnon is having an outstanding rookie season but will approach game one the same way he has every other game this year.

"I'm sure I'll get a couple of goose bumps but it's also important to manage that as much as you can and I don't want to get too caught up in that. Whether there's nobody in the building or 18,000 I just want to play the same game and it should help the team win," MacKinnon told 9NEWS.

Being excited about the game is natural but head coach Patrick Roy's message to his players is to stay in control.
