Colorado woman in Rio for amazing reason

SILVERTHORNE -- At Studio B Dance Center in Silverthorne, co-owner Lauren Hitchell has been pretty busy the past month.

She just opened up for business on Aug. 17, but her partner Jess Belflower is 6,000 miles away in Rio helping put together a dance for the 2016 Paralympic opening ceremony.

Belflower is coaching another Summit County dancer and athlete -- Paralympic Snowboarding bronze medalist and Dancing with the Stars contestant Amy Purdy.

“I just hope people walk away and say that was incredible," Purdy said. "If she can do that then I can do what I want to do too."

Purdy and Belflower have spent more than a month in Rio training for a true Brazilian style 5 minute samba dance that will be featured during opening ceremony on Sept. 7.

“It’s really wonderful and one of the highlights of the entire ceremony,” Belflower said.

It's work that has kept Belflower in Rio enjoying the beauty while also waiting till she can return home to some of that Colorado beauty she’s more used to.

"It makes you realize that we live in a really beautiful place, too,” Belflower said.
