Broncos toast to 50 years

posted by Dan Boniface     3 months ago

DENVER - The Denver Broncos have a storied history: Super Bowls, struggles, and recently, success in the new season. And here's a piece of trivia: It all started with a glass of bubbly at the Brown Palace.

So, it seems fitting that the team would celebrate its 50th Anniversary with a champagne cascade.

Those vintage brown and yellow uniforms were there, too.

Robert Howsam, Jr., son of the original Broncos owner, poured the first of two bottles of bubbly down a 6,000-glass pyramid.

"We wish you 50 more years of success, beginning with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday!" Marcel Pitton, managing director of the Brown Palace, said.

This is the 22nd champagne cascade at the Brown Palace. It commemorated the day in 1959 when Bob Howsom and Lamar Hunt met to discuss the creation of the American Football League.

The Broncos face the Pittsburgh Steelers at Invesco Field at Mile High on Monday Night Football. You can see that game in high definition on My20. The pre-game show begins at 6 p.m. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
