Rapids goalkeeper Tim Howard to undergo season-ending surgery

COMMERCE CITY - Colorado Rapids' Tim Howard, the goalkeeper who made two saves in the penalty shootout against the Los Angeles Galaxy, is out for the rest of the season.

The Rapids announced Monday that Howard was diagnosed with a fracture of the right adductor longus in the upper groin.

He's set to undergo surgery on Thursday, and is expected to be sidelined for four months.

Howard’s injury happened during the first half of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier between the United States and Mexico last Friday in Columbus.

The Rapids advanced to the Conference Championship against Seattle Sounders FC and will play on Nov. 22.
