Brandon Rittiman joined 9NEWS in November 2011 as political reporter, covering all levels of government in Colorado.
In his time at 9NEWS, he's been recognized for his coverage of politics and breaking news.
Brandon spearheads our Truth Test segments, to help viewers make sense of the claims being made in political ads.
The quality of these reports was recognized with the national Cronkite/Jackson Prize for Fact Checking Political Messages and a regional Emmy award for best political series in the 2012 election cycle.
On July 20, 2012, Brandon was the first television reporter to provide live reports from the scene of the Aurora movie theater shooting, in which 12 people were murdered.
His coverage that night and of the response the following days earned recognition with a regional Emmy award as well.
Before moving to Denver, Brandon worked as the News Director for KUNR-FM, the National Public Radio affiliate in Reno, NV where he covered politics and other topics for a national audience.
Before that he was a reporter for KTVN, the CBS affiliate in Reno, NV. He covered state and national politics in Nevada, Texas, and Arizona before moving to Colorado.
Brandon got his start in broadcasting working at KGNS-TV (NBC) in Laredo, TX. While there, he witnessed and regularly reported on the ongoing violence inside Mexico.
He graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
Brandon is happily married. Outside of his work for 9NEWS, Brandon has a passion for art photography.
He also enjoys playing and watching ice hockey, backpacking, and skiing.
