DENVER- Lady Gaga was hospitalized for altitude sickness after her show at the Pepsi Center Wednesday night.

She posted a picture of herself in the hospital on Instagram, saying "altitude sickness is no joke."

Altitude sickness occurs due to a change in altitude levels, which is why many visitors to the Mile High City experience the illness.

9Health reporter Dr. John Torres says there are three levels of altitude sickness. Most people suffer from the lesser of the three, which is called acute mountain sickness.

"They start getting headaches. They start getting shorter breath, very fatigued and just can't really do any kind of exertion. That's acute mountain sickness" Dr. John said.

Drinking lots of water, drinking less alcohol, decreasing your level of activity and adding potassium to your meals can help prevent you from experiencing altitude sickness.

Lady Gaga was in town as part of her world tour, "ArtRave: The Artpop Ball."
