KUSA - The self-proclaimed "Cancer Car" is making its way across America in support of thousands of cancer patients.
Now, the couple behind the car will be in Denver to meet a someone near and dear to them who is fighting the cancer battle.
James Penlon is a cancer patient at University of Colorado hospital. His sister and brother-in-law were inspired by his battle, along with thousands of others who battle cancer everyday, to take the car across the country.
Penlon's mother passed away from pancreatic and liver cancer and his sister is a breast cancer survivor herself.
From the Virginia to the Carolinas, Georgia and Tennessee, the 2013 Ford Mustang has traveled along many roads and made many stops to meet with those fighting cancer.
Funding from Ford and the American Cancer Society have helped fund a majority of the travel costs. Penlon says once the car is completely filled with signatures, it will be clear coated to preserve the signatures.
He says his sister plans on using another car for the same project.
The couple stopped by 9NEWS to showcase their "Cancer Car" and talk about how it all started.
