SILVERTHORNE - By Saturday, Phil Purdy will have run from the mountains to the Front Range. That is 140 miles in just two days, all in the name of charity.
Purdy and his family got started early Friday morning, meeting in Silverthorne at 5 a.m. After giving his wife a kiss, he started running before the sun came up and will not stop until he reaches Fort Collins.
He is running to raise awareness and money to help the homeless get meals and a disability ramp at FOCO Café in Fort Collins. While he runs he will eat around 300 calories an hour to keep his energy up.
But in order to run 140 miles in two days, Phil says he won't stop or sleep much.
"We are planning on running this morning till about midnight, maybe 12:30 - getting about three hours of sleep ...hopefully we will be done 5 p.m. Saturday, so we are looking at a 36 hour goal for running 140 miles," Purdy said.
You can follow his run at FOCOCafe.org.
