DENVER - You might have seen the City and County Building flashing red, white and blue Wednesday night.

Lighting crews were working to program the LED lights on the building for the 5th annual Independence Eve concert and fireworks show at Civic Center Park.

Nate Webb, co-owner of Colorado-based Blazen Illuminations, said his staff started work at dusk on Wednesday. They were still fine-tuning the show after 2:00 a.m. Thursday.

"It takes us awhile to make this happen, and we can only do it when it's dark," Webb explained.

The Independence Eve celebration kicks off Thursday at 8:00 p.m. with patriotic and pop music performances. Acapella group MIX from CU Denver is expected to take the stage along with the Hazel Miller Band and the Denver Municipal Band.

Webb said the lights on the City and County Building will be timed to the music, and of course, there will be plenty of red, white and blue.

"We're programming new things, new looks, a new feel. It's going to be a little more upbeat [this year] and I think it's just going to be a fun time," said Webb.

The free community celebration concludes Thursday night with a ten-minute fireworks show.
