KUSA – We all want to do something special for mom this Sunday, but the latest forecast isn't shaping up to be a good day to hike or have brunch on the patio.

There is still plenty to do with mom that will make her day special, without standing outside in the drizzle.

We've compiled 9 Things to Do with your mom on Mother's Day that involve being warm and cozy inside. But there is one outdoor event, just in case you want to wear a rain jacket and brave the elements before warming up at brunch.

1. Downtown Aquarium Denver - Mother's Day Brunch

For an outing that mixes some time with mom and a fun day for the kids, take her to the Downtown Aquarium Denver. Brunch features 40 items to chose from and goes from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. You'll also get half off Adventure Exhibit Wristbands with a brunch purchase, and parking is validated. To make reservations call 303-561-4450. Cost: Kids $17.95, Adults $37.95, 65+ $32.95.

2. Mommy & Me Cupcakes – Sur La Table

Very rarely can you make a mess in the kitchen and not have to clean it up. Here's your chance! Head to Sur La Table in downtown Denver for a cupcake baking class which begins at 11 a.m. You'll learn how to make batter from scratch and complete your confection with homemade frosting. Kids can decorate their tasty treats in three different ways. Classes last about two hours and are led by chef instructors. To make reservations, call 800-243-0852. Taste-testing included. Cost: $35/per person.

3. The Mamahood – Family Yoga Class

Maybe your mother needs a day of relaxation, or at least a nice hour of quiet time. Donation-based yoga classes at Denver's The Mamahood could be the perfect fit. Led by two instructors, moms and their families will practice breathing exercises, affirmations, asanas, partner poses, and every mom receives a sweet head and shoulder massage at the end of class. All ages and abilities are welcome. Light refreshments and tea soda provided after class. All donations offered will go to Mother House, a non-profit organization in Boulder, Colorado which provides a safe haven for pregnant women who are at risk. Starts at 9:15 a.m. Cost: Donations. Sign-up online.

4. Denver Art Museum – Shop Mother's Day Jewlery Show

If you haven't picked out the perfect present for mom or grandma yet, how about a multi-tasking outing to the Denver Art Musuem? From noon to 5 p.m., you and mom (or aunt or grandma), can peruse handcrafted jewelry with a Sunday spotlight on local artist Pattie Parkhurst. There's more than jewelry with plenty of gifts for mom to pick from, including plates, bowls, wine bags, belts, handbags and puzzles or games. Members save 20% off purchases, and admission to the jewelry show is free.

5. Denver Center for the Performing Arts – Animal Crackers

For the mother who needs a good laugh, take her to DCPA's latest comedy, Animal Crackers, a revival of the 90-year-old classic Marx Brothers mayhem. The plot? A raucous comedy ensues after the theft of a valuable painting from a society dinner party in quintessential Marx Brothers fashion. Matinee performance begins at 1:30 p.m. and lasts about two hours and 20 minutes. Cost: $30-65.

6. Scented Studio – Fragrance for Mom

Eau d'mom is a special scent, and if you can't remember whether she wears Chanel or Clinique, why not take her to create her own signature perfume? At Cherry Creek's Scented Studio, a special mother's day Scented Journey workshop lets you both blend your favorite scents into a unique fragrance that is the essence of you. Participants get a 100mL bottle of their fragrance to take home. Mimosas and snacks served. Please call ahead. 303.333.3315. Cost: $55/per person.

7. Traditional Brunch

You can't go wrong with a mother's day mimosa or warm stack of pancakes. Several Denver-area restaurants have special Mother's Day perks to go along with a good meal.

Boulder Chophouse: Brunch goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost: $55. Half-priced Bloody Mary's and Mimosas. Also open for dinner.

8. Spa Day

Although it may be hard to book an appointment for Sunday, plenty of local spas have Mother's Day packages for the mommy who hasn't sat down long enough to have a facial or a pedicure in months. Treat her, or buy yourself one too, and plan a girl's day at the spa.

Veda Salon and Spa (Denver, Colorado Springs): Treat mom to a Relax, Renew, or Restore package, featuring facials, massage, and a special gift. Prices start at $85.

Antoine Du Chez (Denver): Special prices on facials, body treatments, and mani-pedis. Packages start at $125.

9. Mother's Day 5K

If chilly temperatures and a bit of drizzle won't deter you from spending time outdoors with mom and the family, sign up for the 4th Annual Mother's Day 5K at Denver's City Park. Race registration includes admission to a post-race party and t-shirt. Mom's with kids have the option of child care while they're racing – or strollers are welcome along the course. Locally catered brunch is served for an additional $25 post-race. At least you'll know you've earned an extra waffle after you cross the finish line! Race begins at 9 a.m. Cost: $35/per person, $115 per family.

Bonus: Maybe mom has dinner planned for Sunday evening with a special someone. Many makeup stores offer free application with minimum purchase. Let her pick out some new treats at Sephora or Mac, and then have the experts doll her up for a night on the town.
