PINE JUNCTION – If you lived in Colorado during the 1980's, chances are you knew Stanleigh the Raccoon. For the longest time, Stanleigh was a huge celebrity.

Stanleigh belonged to George and Ruth Cloven, until he passed away in the early 90's. Since then, the Clovens have raised and owned a few more raccoons, including their current raccoon Richie.

A few years ago the Clovens' home burned down so they began to rent a home from a kind couple in Pine Junction.

At the end of May, the Clovens received a letter from the owners saying they had to move out.

The owners are dealing with a personal issue and want to take their home back. George and Ruth have until June 30 to find a new place. The pair never had a lease.

"We have a limited income, social security and the rent up here is extremely high," said Ruth Cloven.

The landlords apologized for the inconvenience and even wrote George and Ruth a glowing recommendation.

"There's absolutely no damage done to the house. We have a perfect recommendation. We pay the rent," Ruth Cloven added.

Problem is, most cities won't allow residents to own raccoons. Ruth and George are certified by the USDA to own up to five raccoons, although they only own one.

"He's not destructive, he doesn't destroy anything. He sits on the couch and watches TV. Goes to his outside cage when he wants to," Ruth Cloven said.

Richie the raccoon is more like a playful pup. He watches TV with the Clovens on a regular basis, rolls around and even plays with his best friend, the Cloven's poodle.

"This was just a real blow all of a sudden," Ruth Cloven added.

The Clovens are hoping someone will come forward and allow them to live on their property, in a home they're looking to rent.
