LA PLATA COUNTY - The La Plata County Humane Society got five dogs that need funding to help them live better lives. Each of them have their own traumatic experience.

LPCHS is hoping to raise enough money to cover the costs of four surgeries and two wheelchairs for the five dogs: Fawn, Rocky, River, Rusty and Lt. Dan. The shelter needs $5,000 to help pay for the surgeries and rehabilitation.

Fawn was noticed by a woman passing through Kayenta in northern Arizona. Fawn was limping. The woman brought Fawn to LPCHS, and Fawn was diagnosed with a femoral head ostectomy.

Rocky was found on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, and River was found in Shiprock, N.M. Both Rocky and River have femoral head ostectomy, also.

Rusty tumbled out of the bed of a pickup truck. Thankfully, the person behind the driver stopped and picked up Rusty. They were able to flag down the driver, but the driver did not want the puppy. His femur is fractured, and LPCHS found an old femoral neck fracture as well they want to help heal.

Lt. Dan was picked up by Animal Protection. The people who called told the officer Lt. Dan was dragging himself by the road near Ignacio. He had severe sores on the tops of his paws, and he was covered in feces. He was diagnosed with a luxated vertebrae on the lower spine.
