ENGLEWOOD – Two-year-old Clovis hasn't had the best start to his pug-life, but volunteers are working to make sure from now on, he's happy and healthy.
Tuesday, he had emergency surgery to save his eyesight.
Clovis was found as a stray along a New Mexico highway with chemical burns on his neck, head, eyes and right ear last week.
Now in Englewood, Clovis continues treatment for the burns, eye ulcers and a skin infection at VRCC Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital.
Colorado Pug Rescue is taking care of Clovis, who is currently staying with a foster mom.
She says despite the abuse, he is smart, adventurous and playful.
Clovis will need care for months to come.
