Heidi McGuire joined the 9News team in March of 2006 as the station's first Backpack Journalist. As a BPJ, not to be confused with a PB&J, Heidi reported, shot, and edited stories for daily newscasts.
In 2009 Heidi joined the Denver Metromix team. She now reports for both Metromix and the 9NEWS Your Money team with Mark Koebrich and Gregg Moss.
Before she got to Denver, Heidi also worked as a backpack journalist in her home state of North Carolina, for WFMY News 2.
But don't call this Carolina girl a Tarheel. Heidi aligns with "the" Carolina, the University of South Carolina. Go Gamecocks!
That's where Heidi studied broadcast journalism for four years and got her first taste of the news biz. Heidi's first paying gig was at WLTX News 19 in Columbia, South Carolina, where she worked behind the scenes before she graduated.
A couple of years later, Heidi said goodbye to the Carolina's, and headed to South Dakota where she got her first shot in front of the camera. Heidi worked as a one-woman-show for KSFY News in Aberdeen long enough to experience one winter. Burrrrr! It was too cold for this southern gal, and lucky for her there was a perfect job opening in North Carolina.
Heidi felt right at home at News 2 in Greensboro where she continued to work on her writing, shooting, and editing. That's when she started to realize how much she liked working solo. Heidi says, "It's a tough gig, with plenty of personal reward." Heidi loved reporting for her hometown audience and family, but it wasn't long and the west was calling again.
Heidi was thrilled to be a part of the 9News team, and she says Denver could not be a better fit. The weather, the people, the mountains, and of course a job she loves.
Right away Heidi picked up camping and hiking, and found and outlet for her favorite sport, volleyball.
Heidi says she can't wait to see more of Colorado, and get to know the people who live here. Just so happens, Heidi has the perfect job that allows her to do both.
Heidi would love to hear from you, if you have a story idea or just want to say "hi" you can...
