DENVER - The Radio Television Digital News Association this week announced the regional winners of the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award. 9NEWS won five awards this year including the award for Video Reporting - Hard News.
9NEWS received more awards than any other station in the five state mountain region of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. 9NEWS captured top honors in five of 13 categories. 9NEWS Vice-President and News Director Patti Dennis said, "Whether it's hard news, sports or feature reporting, when our viewers want the best coverage of Colorado across the widest range of platforms including the web and mobile, they can always rely on the Networks of 9NEWS."
9NEWS Reporter Chris Vanderveen was recognized with two awards for his work. His story with photographer Corky Scholl, Life's Intersections, won the individual award for Hard News Reporting, as well as being part of Vanderveen's award-winning Writing composite.
All of the regional honorees will now be considered for national Edward R. Murrow Awards which the RTDNA will announce in June. All winning entries can be seen on the RTDNA website.
RTDNA has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow's pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name.
