Authorities say Shane Burke, who is from Baltimore, and his friend Steve Dewie hiked up to get a view of the fire. They went up Poudre Canyon from Hewlett Gulch Trail, even though the trail is closed because of the fire.

According to firefighters, the two could not see the fire from their vantage point, so they came down a crevice. Rocks in the crevice came loose and Burke got stuck. Dewie then went to get help from a firefighter.

Larimer County Search and Rescue came in and used ropes from the top of the crevice to put a harness around Burke and pull him out. They had to use 60 feet of rope.

Burke was stuck for a few hours, but was not hurt.
