Lieutenant Tim Brown with Loveland Police tells 9NEWS the officer is on paid-administrative leave while the investigation is going on.

"We have an active investigation; we're pursuing it will all available resources," Brown said.

Brown would not release the details of the investigation, how it came about or the officer's background with the department.

"We have not identified a threat or concern for the general public," Brown said.

Brown couldn't say how long the investigation will take. He did say an outside investigation was possible but not sure if and when that would take place. Brown says when the police have more details to release, they will share their findings with the public.

The Larimer County District Attorney's office told 9NEWS it is aware of the situation and is working with the Loveland Police Department. The investigation has not been presented to the Larimer County DA yet for review.
