While a few funnels have been sighted, hail and straight-line winds accounted for most of the damage by early Thursday evening.
Storms in Weld County produced huge hail and a report of a tornado in Nunn. No tornado damage was reported in Nunn but hail up to tennis ball size broke some windshields.
A tornado was reported in Calhan in El Paso County around 7:45 p.m. High winds and hail along with the tornado caused property damage.
A small tornado was reported 12 miles southwest of Agate in Elbert County but no damage was reported with that storm.
Manylocations had very large hail:
- 3 miles north of Ft. Morgan: 2.75"
- 1 mile south of Byers: 2.50"
- Ft. Morgan: 1.75"
Wednesday rainfall totals ranged from nothing to a 2 inchesin many areas across the Front Range:
- Boulder: 0.00"
- Westminster: 0.00"
- DIA: 0.24"
- Lakewood: 1.42"
- Englewood: 0.87"
- South Aurora: 1.54"
- Centennial: 1.26"
- Highlands Ranch: 1.77"
- Sedalia: 3.82"
- Parker: 2.28"
These are just a few examples of the rain totals along the Front Range. Your area could have seen a little more or a little less.
The National Weather Service confirmed six tornadoes touched down in Colorado Wednesday evening.
The first tornado was just after 5 p.m. and was spotted off Pena Boulevard near Denver International Airport. There were no reports of damage or injuries in connection with that storm.
The second tornado was around 6:30 p.m. in Weld County. The National Weather Service says that tornado ripped out a tree.
At 7:30 p.m., a tornado was spotted in Kiowa. Just 10 minutes later, another tornado touched down about 14 miles northeast of Elizabeth. Just a few moments later, two tornadoes touched down 14 miles south of Bennet. No injuries or damage are reported in association with the four later tornadoes.
Severe storms east of Denver produced at leastone-inch diameter hail and damaging wind along with lightning.
Storms formed along a cold front east of Bennet and Byers around 3 p.m. and became strong to severe around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
