The fire is burning near Waldo Canyon off of Highway 24 and there at zero percent containment. No structures have been burned and no injuries have been reported.
More than 350 people are working the fire, just to the west of Colorado Springs.
More than 1,000 evacuation notices were sent out. Garden of the Gods Park and Garden of the Gods Visitor Center are closed.
Some roads going into Manitou Springs are closed. Pre-evacuation notices were sent out to some residents of Manitou Springs.
The Cedar Heights subdivision and Mountain Shadows south of Chuck Wagon are under mandatory evacuation. The evacuation boundaries include Rampart Range Road and everything west of 30th and Centennial, from Gateway Road, north to Chuck Wagon.
According to the City of Colorado Springs, approximately 1,050 homes have been evacuated. Two hundred people from Glen Eyrie Conference Center were evacuated to the Woodmen Valley Chapel.
The Red Cross has opened a shelter for evacuees at Cheyenne Mountain High School, located at 1200 Cresta Road.
Small animals needing shelter can be taken to the Pikes Peak Humane Society at 610 Abbott Lane in Colorado Springs, or Bear Creek Veterinary Care at 960 Pico Point.
Large animals needing shelter can be taken to the Penrose Equestrian Center, located at 1045 W. Rio Grande Street in Colorado Springs.
The Red Cross is accepting monetary donations for those affected by the fire.
